The Hôtel Château Laurier Québec is a third-generation family business that has acquired extensive expertise in the art of hospitality over the years. We offer you an unforgettable experience steeped in the colours and flavours of contemporary Quebec.
A family history
Founded in 1947 by Lucien Plamondon, the Hôtel Château Laurier Québec was originally housed in adjoining residences built in 1889 by Louis Bilodeau and based on designs by the architect Joseph-Ferdinand Peachy. In 1975, when large hotel chains were proliferating in Québec City and foreshadowing the end of its neighbourhood hotels, Robert Girard, who had an expert eye for real estate, took advantage of an opportunity to purchase the business and founded the Cogires Group. He brought in his 21-year-old son Alain, who would learn the trade with passion and determination.
The Girard family acquired the Hôtel Manoir Lafayette in 1978 and then enlarged it in 1992. From then until 2004, successive mergers with other hotels and adjoining houses, along with expansions, increased the total number of rooms from 48 to 154. One year later, the group acquired 650 Wilfrid-Laurier Avenue, and in 2005, it added more than 90 rooms and suites, 10 meeting rooms, a swimming pool, a fitness centre, indoor parking, a ballroom and a courtyard. In 2014, the entire Grande Allée wing was renovated and saw the addition of the Ultra section and the De La Colline and George V meeting rooms.
Finally, after several years as president and CEO of the Hôtel Château Laurier Québec, in 2016 Mr. Girard passed the torch to his daughter Aude, who has continued the group’s development. In 2019, the lobby was renovated and the hotel joined the Ôrigine Artisans Hôteliers group, Quebec’s largest network of independent inns and hotels. Since then, Aude has continued the hotel’s modernization, including the renovation of one third of its rooms in 2024, with the help of her sister Corinne. And the story continues, thanks to you.
